Twitter Success Story !!

A decade ago, ‘tweeting’ was something that we associated with birds and we ‘followed’ chiefly some religion. But times are different now as human beings have started ‘tweeting’ and ‘following’ other human beings. Just six years ago, this amazing social networking service named Twitter was born which has colored every aspect of our lives in its hue today. Equally amazing is the fact that what started as a medium for sending short messages became a habit, a necessity and a home to more than 500 million people in a short span of six years.

As Twitter celebrates its 6th anniversary, it is christened as ‘the largest’ open communication platform where a single person can connect with millions of other people in a flicker of second.

The grand celebration of Twitter’s successful completion of 6 years on the web also commemorates its modest beginnings of which frequent downtime and malfunctions were very much a part. But its creators belonging to Odeo – a podcasting company – had full faith in its potential and today its worth as well as importance is as visible as the mighty sun. Now talking in terms of hashtags and using Twitter handles have become as usual as eating meals or drinking water. Our movies, TV shows and celebrities seem to be fonder of them than anyone else. In fact, celebrities use their Twitter nicknames to reach out to their fans.

Nevertheless, popularity of Twitter continues to be threatened by web giants like Facebook and Google. Facebook’s IPO has really proved to be a nightmare for Twitter and torrential rains of questions regarding similar intentions on Twitter’s part continue to torment it. It is quite difficult to say with determination if or not Twitter will go public in the near future and will it remain independent or be gulped by even bigger giants like Microsoft, Apple and Google.

Only time will tell the fate of Twitter. What we can do is wish Twitter a very best of luck in upcoming years.

Can Fasting change your life? – Ramadan Special !!

By Umme Salma

There is a saying in India “With Empty Stomach, You Can’t Even Worship” , Well the same doesn’t hold true to Muslims, who fast in the holy month of Ramadan to worship. Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, cutting themselves off from worldly pleasure and devoting themselves to god. To a Muslim,

Ramadan fasting is not just refraining from eating and drinking but carries the added significance of worship, psychological comfort, morality and legislation.

There has been much contention whether or not fasting is beneficial to one’s health. Many are dubious as to whether the physiological effects are as beneficial as spiritual. For those who think fasting is injurious to health , here are some benefits of fasting: According to a Scientific research on “Health benefits of  Fasting”, A fast does not chemically begin until the carbohydrate stores in the body begin to be used as an energy source. The fast will continue as long as fat and carbohydrate stores are used for energy, as opposed to protein stores. This will result in natural way of burning body fat for energy. The function of breaking down of fat stores in the body in order to produce energy is called Autolysis.

A second prescribed benefit of fasting is the healing process that begins in the body during a fast. During a fast energy is diverted away from the digestive system due to its lack of use and towards the metabolism and immune system. Abnormal growths within the body, tumors and the like, do not have the full support of the body’s supplies and therefore are more susceptible to autolysis.

The body rids itself of the toxins that have built up in our fat stores throughout the years. The body heals itself, repairs all the damaged organs during a fast. Therefore fasting helps in bodies detoxification system results in healthier cells, tissues and organs.

Finally, the most scientifically proven advantage to fasting is the feeling of rejuvenation and extended life expectancy. A slower metabolic rate, more efficient protein production, an improved immune system, and the increased production of hormones contributes to this long-term benefit of fasting. In addition to the Human Growth Hormone that is released more frequently during a fast, an anti-aging hormone is also produced more efficiently.

After the body going through this challenge and changes for the whole day, Muslims are looking forward to breaking their fast with their families, friends, and community members, at their homes, at the mosques, and at the religious institutions called Iftar

Breaking the fast after sunset is a real delight. When the first sip of water goes down there throat they realize how much pleasure it gives. Hence Ramadan is not just about fasting but also about giving charity and helping the under privileged.

Dubai: A place where No Mission is Impossible !

Written by: Umme Salma

Dubai, a  place where dreams and imagination become reality, a place where nothing seems to be Impossible. The city swamped with shopping malls, night clubs and all that appeal humans has proved itself to be a wonder in its self. Dubai has a history of ‘rag to riches’; from 1960’s it has undergone a remarkable transformation. Enriched with oil, the city started trading with pearl is now a Multinational Economic and Financial hub of the Middle East and a leading Tourist destination in the world. A dream of the Dubai ruler, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum dared to dream and made the most luxurious hotel in the world (Burj Al Arab) and the tallest building the world (Burj Al Khalifa).

The Maktoum dynasty has a Mission to make Dubai the top traveller’s destination in the world. They wanted to generate revenue through Tourism as oil reserves in Dubai is expected to expire by 2016. To fulfill the growing demands of tourist and to accommodate more tourists year after year, the sea of Dubai underwent metamorphosis to form a reclamation land. After the success of “Palm Jumeirah” and investor’s unceasing desire for more, they came up with a much bigger and unique global mega structure called “The Dubai World Islands”.

The biggest reclamation project is in the shape of the World Map consists of 300 different man-made islands. This changed the geography of Dubai in the world map where “The world” can be seen from space. This magnificent project revolutionised the coast of Dubai.

But the catastrophes have struck the nation once again. A city where money seems to be no object was in great turmoil after the hit of great recession, sparing no one. With a sudden withdrawal of foreign investment, Dubai was one of the worst hit cities. The unsold 150 islands of ‘Dubai world’ and companies sudden denial of purchase of islands lead to the standstill of this multimillion dollar project. The sale of islands is not progressing and investors are more worried about the sinking islands.

Real estate prices, which were at their peak in 2008, started dropping, bringing them below the original price in less than a year. Development projects were stopped in the city and could only see deserted construction sites.

Today, when the world has started taking a step towards recovery, Dubai is still struggling to define the bottom line of the drop. Oversupply of residential and commercial properties continued to have a negative effect on prices and rental values and 20 percent drop on tourism added on to the trauma, which is the biggest setback for “Dubai world islands”

Dubai is recovering and everyone has started to feel the constructive vibe; bringing back the missing positive sentiments that can kick-start the recovery. With the incessant efforts taken by the government of Dubai in promoting tourism and stabilizing the economy is fruitful. Dubai has once again proved itself; where other countries look to Dubai as a model of economic diversification.

The sun in Dubai still shines brightly but the shadows of recession haven’t faded. And the hopes are high that Dubai will “SAVE THE WORLD”.

Nexus 7 : Review !!

Written By :- Aanandita Chawla

Following the hype around the Google tablet, on June 27, Google announced the Nexus 7. This Asus branded tablet, is the first released by Google, and is packed with a powerhouse of utilities and specs.

The Nexus 7 is a 7 inch tablet, the first to house a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core CPU, which also includes a 12-core GPU. The resolution of the screen is a crystal clear 1280×800, offering a sharp and detailed picture quality for the users.

It includes 1 GB of RAM, 1.3 front camera and a micro USB port, in addition to the usual suspects, a gyroscope, GPS, accelerometer, microphone, and Wi-Fi compatibility.

The Nexus 7 is supposed to be the answer to Amazon’s Kindle Fire, which has the same look and size. Targeting the audience that demands a smaller more compact tablet, the Nexus 7 is more portable and can be handled easily with one hand.

The processor ensures that the tablet runs smoothly, and lighting fast for any type of program that you may choose to run. The OS included will be the newly announced Jellybean 4.1. The Jellybean 4.1 is a step up from the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, incorporating changes and updates that make the user’s experience all the more smoother and easier to operate.

The keyboard in this OS is one of the popular updates, it is said to enable smoother typing and helps one make lesser mistakes while typing.

The Google Play version now included in 4.1 is a new and improved version that finally matches up to the times we live in. It now includes movies, magazines and TV shows, in addition to the already available Android market for apps.

The battery life on this tablet is said to run 9 hours while playing full HD video, which means a decent life on regular use. One of the drawbacks is the lack of extendable memory slot. Although it is available in different capacity brackets and its price more than makes up for it, its exclusion is a negative for some.

The Nexus 7, all in all, makes a great tablet for the mid-price range. The 7-inch tablet makes a great first impression, and an even better second one.
